Due to state regulations, these fish cannot be shipped to Maine or New York.
Koi are the some of the most spectacular ornamental fish for outdoor ponds. These fish are prized for the bright, beautiful colors and patterns they develop as they mature. Koi are not suitable for small ponds (they should have a minimum of 300 gallons of water per fish, preferably more) and must have adequate filtration. Your pond should be at least 36 inches deep for the fish to winter over, and a heater or de-icer may be necessary to keep ice open for gas exchange. These colorful carp can live a very long time (40+ years) and usually reach lengths of at least 18 inches with proper housing and care. Koi are gentle and interactive. They may even be tamed to eat out of your hand!
Koi may be fed once or twice a day, and only as much as they can consume in about 5 minutes. There are several different formulas of food available to feed koi. The foods are formulated with different protein content to benefit these fish through the changing seasons. Lower protein foods are fed during cooler months when the fish are less active, while higher protein formulas are fed from late Spring through early Fall. Koi should not be fed once the water temperature falls below 45 degrees. During the Summer they may also enjoy small bites of fruits and veggies as occasional treats.
