The Spiny Cup Corals (Pectinia sp.) are unique-looking corals, usually ranging from dark to light green. Less commonly, blue, red, purple or yellow colonies can also be found. It can form a cup-like shape with sharp points protruding from the center of the coral, branching colonies, or may resemble some deep-walled maze brain corals or leafy leather corals.
Pectinia is not a very hardy coral and will do best in a well-established aquarium with good lighting and regular addition of trace elements. Pectinia will use photosynthesis to feed but can benefit from supplemental zooplankton feedings. Water movement should be moderate to high to help carry waste and debris away from the colony.
