Details
Frilly Neck Crabs (Podochela sp.) are also known as Decorated Arrow Crabs. However, these Frilly Neck Crabs are not actually related to the Arrow Crab (Stenorhynchus seticornis). They are actually decorator crabs and will attach hydroids and other organisms to their legs to blend into their background. Like Arrow Crabs, they have long legs and a triangular carapace with an extended rostrum. Frilly Neck Crabs are often found on gorgonians and seafans where they can camouflage easily. They will stand motionless and collect small bits of food that float by in the water column. They are not a threat to fish or inverts.
