Cycle your tank of ammonia and add fish on the same day with Bio-Activ Live Aragonite substrate. Collected directly from the ocean bottom, this natural substrate contains live bacteria for controlling nitrate. Aragonite also provides essential inorganic elements like strontium, cobalt, and zinc, and helps to maintain tank pH. Digger friendly, and completely safe for sand-sifting organisms. No waiting. SAND QUESTIONS. 4/18/2014
Does anyone know if this can be put into a freshwater tank and how many bags I will need to cover the bottom of a 60 gallon? Please answer I would like to know!
That Fish Place: Hi Dave, thanks for asking. This sand, and any sand listed as 'marine' or 'reef', will raise your pH to approx. 8.2-8.3. So it is typically used for saltwater. The only freshwater inhabitants that would be suitable in that pH would be African Cichlids that need their pH to be around that 8.2-8.3 range. In regard to how much gravel/substrate to use, the old rule of thumb is a pound per gallon. So 60 lbs should get you covered pretty well, and you can go higher or lower depending on thick you want your base to be. Keep in mind, it can vary if you have a tank with unique dimensions. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
Love the sand 10/21/2013

The quality of this sand is beautiful. It's white as can be and very very sugar fine. This is exactly what I wanted and what is NEEDED for a deep sand bed.
I love That pet Place and have shopped here before computers were available! LOL!
I do want to buy the correct grain size however, as I am starting a reef tank (after the last disaster!) from scratch,... AND under the supervision of expert Newyorksteelo!
He says get the 0.5- 0.1 grain size, and this is what I intent to get. But, no grain size is mentioned here, and that is disapointing! Do I have to go somewhere else ? Come on That Pet Place,....give me the details,..please!!
That Fish Place: Hi Pam, thanks for commenting. The manufacturer lists that sand as 0.1-0.5mm in size. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call us at 1-888-THATPET. Thanks!
Beautiful sand! 12/30/2012
This sand is just beautiful! The grain size is very fine, if you've ever been to Cancun, this sand is very similar to that one! I purchased 11 bags of this baby for a Deep Sand Bed as recommended by Newyork Steelo in youtube. This is the correct grain size for that purpose.
