The H.O.T. Magnum is a compact, silent, and efficient canister filter. It provides mechanical and chemical filtration for aquariums up to 55 gallons. The Magnum has a self priming, bottom mounted sealed motor with a flow rate of 250gph. The H.O.T.(Hang On Tank) Magnum filter is lightweight enough to safely hang directly on the back of any aquarium, and yet performs heavy duty, canister filtration. The two stage filter can quickly and easily convert from a continuous duty filter to a quick-clean micron water polisher.
Mechanical filtration is provided by the replaceable Rite-Sized Foam Sleeve. The foam sleeve is a dense, high porosity prefilter to trap dirt and debris. Chemical filtration is provided by a Carbon/Media Container packed with carbon to remove dissolved organic impurities.
The H.O.T. Magnum easily converts from everyday 2-stage filtration system, into a fine particle quick-clean polishing filter, by simply switching the carbon media container with the pleated Micron Cartridge. Ideal for quick-clean duty, the reusable Micron Cartridge has 320 square inches of surface area. It efficiently removes microscopic particles, eliminating the need for diatomagic powder. The H.O.T Magnum installs in minutes which makes it ideal for multiple aquarium water polishing. The snap lock and leak-proof connectors eliminate the need for hoses or tubing.

I have used these for years, with bio-wheels for complete filtration, and without as a multi-tank polisher, or hosp tank filter. Currently without, am planning on getting one to occasionally polish the water in my 75 gallon planted (using an emporer power filter for main filtration).

Very messy and finicky to change. If water level in filter not up to very top, if exhaust port not below water level or for other, unknown reasons, filter will not function after cleaning. Do NOT use if aquarium is over carpeting, unless you like wet carpeting.

filters work good, no problems so far, had them for almost four years. if you keep them clean, cleaning means, clean every part, in the filter. i clean mine every eight days,and the suction is good. good water means healthy fish

I absolutely love this filter. It is so simple to assemble and install and works as promised. I like the fact that there is a power button to shut off during feeding time or when you want to swap out the media for water polishing. I only wish there was a way to reduce the output of the water returning to the tank. Some of my fish have a hard time swimming against the current when caught in the path.
