The Marineland Reef Capable LED Light system, is specifically designed to provide beautiful shimmering light, that benefits corals, fish and invertibrates in reef aquariums. These low profile, energy efficient, high output, LED light systems provide comparable light output to HO T5 fluorescent fixtures, without the energy consumption, heat output, or toxic materials. Built in heat sink requires no cooling fans so fixture is completely silent during operation.
The 36 to 48 in. Reef Capable LED light system utilizes a combination of (36) 10,000K white and (6) 460nm Actinic Blue 1 watt LEDs. The combination of LED bulbs in the fixture produces a light spectrum that is beneficial for the health, color and growth of reef aquarium plants and animals. White LEDs include polycarbonate focusing lenses, and Blue LEDs have special dispersion polycarbonate lenses to provide better color mixing, and light pentration.
The built in digital timer system, allows for complete 24 hr control of the fixture, including independant control of the blue and white LED channels, for simulated dawn and dusk lighting. Expandable tank frame mounts support fixture in place on almost any 36 to 28 in. aquarium. Energy efficient LED bulbs, last up to 50,000 hrs, and never need replacement.
I have 3 of these over by 65 gallon aquarium and my corals are doing wonderful. This is a heavy SPS system and I have been getting great growth.
Like the previous person said, 1 of these will not be enough. 2 or 3 do the trick though.

Added 2 of the 24 inch fixtures over my 60 cube tank about 6 months ago. SPS growth is excellent, clams and LPS growing well also, even on the bottom sand, and colors are fantastic. I love the newly added digital timer so I can set a dawn and dusk phase with the blue LED's. Replaced a single HQI fixture, and have much lower electrical usage and temperatures. Not sure what the previous reviewer was talking about. Perhaps he didn't use enough of them for his tank. You need one fixture for every 10 inches of front to back depth.
I am very pleased with these light fixtures. I did some reviews and opted to go with 3 of them over my aquarium. Like Jerry states, 1 of them will not be enough over your tank to grow much. 2 or 3 of them would be needed
I was really impressed with the second gen Reef Capable fixtures. I am running 2 of them over my SPS 40 breeder and am getting great results.
I do agree with Jerry though regarding a single unit. You will need 2 sometimes even 3 of them over your tank to get the right amount of output.
Not very strong LED lighting. Not really good for coral growth at all. I switched my metal halide lighting for this and was definitely not impressed. "Reef Capable" - not really. Yeah, maybe for mushrooms and polyps but it definitely isnt if you want to keep a mixed reef or SPS.
