i think these are brighter than LEDs, but LEDs last a lot longer, so that's a trade off you have to decide on. as the one reviewer said it stinks these are on the way out because they did a great job, but as the other reviewer said, i dont think they are allowed to make the ballasts for the T8/T10/T12 style lamps any longer?

in regard to the other review, they are discontinued by government mandate and LEDs do use less energy, which is what nearly everyone looking for a light wants.
Wanna know why these were terrible and discontinued? Which is why most sizes are ALWAYS out of stock here! Because the cheap, thin, flimsy PLASTIC that held it all together would/does/can MELT from the heat of the bulb! Oh it's very true! Unlike the originals that were made IN AMERICA with Aluminum refletors and would last ten years or longer, these are made with cheap, thin, flimsy plastic that cant handle heat, starters that would fail quickly, the cheap ballasts would burn out within 1 year, sometimes even less! I know because I had Perfecto Fluorescent full hoods on all of my fresh and salt water tanks from the early 1970's till recently, they were on all of my 5gal, 10gal, 17hex, 20 high, 20 long, 17hex 29, 40, 55, 60, 75, and 125 gallon, NONE of them lasted for more then 2 or 3 years, one lasted about 8 years but none of the guts were original!, They all failed, melted or fell apart! They ARE far more affordable to these newfangled LED strips which are NOT very bright and dont last either! The Aquatic industry was once an affordable activity for hobbyists who enjoyed keeping and breeding fish, too bad it's really become nothing more than an overpriced chore filled with idiots in stores and forums who know NOTHING but are full of nonsense and themselves and nothing but corporate greed!! This site has these the cheapest you will find anywhere online, but they make up for it by overcharging on shipping!
