Trigonostigma heteromorpha "Harlequin Rasbora"
The harlequin rasbora is a silver to gold metallic fish with a wide black, roughly triangular mark that covers the rear half of the body. Reddish irridescent tones mark the upper "triangle" and flanks, and the fins usually have an orangeish tinge. A similar species, the false harlequin rasbora is often mistaken for the harlequin, but its black mark is shaped more like a lambchop. This fish is a hardy species that prefers acidic, soft water. It occurs in forest streams, and is most comfortable in an aquarium that has lower to moderate lighting and plenty of lush plant growth or other hiding places. This fish is schooling by nature, and should be kept in groups of at least 6 fish. It is peaceful and shy, and can easily be kept in most community tanks containing other small community fish. Avoid tankmates that are fast-swimming or nippy, as these will stress the harlequins. They can be fed a variety of flake and small pelleted foods, and well as frozen treats such as brine shrimp and daphnia.
