Astatotilapia burtoni is a colorful mouthbrooding Tanganyikan. Adult males develop blue, green, and yellow metallic body color which can change depending on locale, aquarium conditions and mood of the individual.
Burtoni inhabits shallow slow moving waters of rivers and swamps surrounding Lake Tanganyika. Provide rockwork in the aquarium for males to establish territory. Temperament of these fish is generally very agreeable with tankmates and they will spawn readily when kept under favorable conditions and in groups.
