Hyphessobrycon sweglesi "Red Phantom Tetra"
Red Phantom Tetras are orange to red in color with red fins. A large black vertical line marks the flank just behind the gills. This mark loses intensity with age. Both males and females develop elongated dorsal fins as they mature, however, females usually display a black mark on the dorsal fin.
A schooling fish, the Red Phantom should be kept in groups of 6 or more. This tetra is relatively hardy, but it prefers cooler water than most other tetras. If kept in water that is too warm, this fish will fade in color and its lifespan will be much shorter than usual. Red Phantom Tetras are peaceful fish that make a colorful addition to most community tanks. They will accept a variety of flake and small pelleted foods as well as frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms to help enhance their color. They do well in planted tanks, and will benefit from plants or other decorations that provide some hiding places.
