Puntius titteya "Cherry Barb"
Cherry Barbs are a peaceful fish that can be kept successfully in most community tanks. They are one of the smallest of the barbs. The Cherry Barb has a reddish brown dorsal side and a darker reddish ventral side. The body is divided in half horizontally by a broken black line which has a faint gold line above it. The fins are red. Males are generally a deeper red than females.
Cherry Barbs are hardy, and relatively easy to breed in captivity. There are a few color varieties available, including albino.
These smaller barbs tend to be less fin-nippy than other barbs and do very well in the community aquarium. To keep aggression under control, be sure to keep in a school of 6 or more.
Barbs accept a variety of foods including flake, pellet, frozen meaty foods, and even the occasional fresh veggies.
