Details

Nandopsis haitiensis, commonly known as the Haitian cichlid, Black Nasty, and Odo, is native to the fast moving freshwater rivers and streams of Haiti. These fish live up to their common names, as they are highly aggressive and simply cannot be housed with other fish. Minimum tank size for a single specimen is 75 gallons, as they can reach sizes of up to 15 inches.

Haitian Cichlids should have plenty of rock or wood furnishing the tank. They are omnivores, and should be supplied with foods like large pellets, worms, spirulina or frozen cichlid formulas for a well-rounded diet. These fish may be housed in breeding pairs with sufficient space, though pairs should be established early.

Black Nasty Cichlid

by

This fish is almost impossible to get at your local petshop. It is a very hardy, fast growing cichlid with lots of personality and a great appetite!

Black Nasty

This cichlid has quickly become a favorite of mine. It has lots of personality, a great appetite, and can hold its own against my Parachromis Dovii Cichlids! You will never find this fish in a local pet shop unless you live in Lancaster PA.

Amazing Fish

by

This is my first haitian and I absolutely love him so far. He is tiny, I'd guess an inch or so, by far the smallest fish in the tank. There are two jack dempseys in there with him that are each 4 inches as well as some small but still larger than the haitiain, 3 convicts, 2 managuense and 1 medium sized jewel and the haitian does his thing man. He started eating literally like 10 minutes after I after I put him in the brand new tank and was the first fish to figure out that you could swim to the surface and start eating rather than waiting for the food to sink down to you. I can't wait for him to get bigger and am excited to see if the black nasty reputation holds true. I plan to move the jack dempseys out of the current setup as they are just wayy to big compared to the other fish right now, and plan to add a red devil, dovi, red terror, green terror, red dragon flower horn and buttikoferi so ***** going to get real
