Salmacis belli "Bell’s Sea Urchin"
This small urchin has short spines that are banded with color, typically brown or green. It is a grazer and algae eater for the home aquarium. It will eat many types of algae, including the encrusting coralline algae desired by many aquarist. It is generally considered reef safe. Damage may be done to corals as the urchin grazers over the surface, but the urchin will not actively eat the coral.
