Balanophyllia elegans "Orange Cup Coral"
The Orange Cup Coral, Balanophyllia elegans, is a relatively new and rare coral to the aquarium trade and not much is known yet about its care. It is a solitary coral that grows in a single, cup-shaped polyp, but it can reproduce by budding additional polyps off its base. They are generally orange in color but can range from a pale beige to darker brown.
This coral is thought to feed primarily as a filter feeder and should be target-fed with meaty planktonic foods. When feeding, the coral will extend short, anemone-like tentacles from its base. They feed primarily at night.
