Palythoa sp. "Purple Death Polyp Frag" (Jason Fox)
With such a cheery name, who can resist these polyps?! Purple Death Polyps have a broad purple center than can range from a more subdued mauve to an intense electric purple, depending on the lighting. The fringed rims are short and may have a greenish tint.
Palythoa polyps depend heavily on lighting and the zooxanthellate algae found in the polyps. While they will tolerate lower light, they will thrive if kept under higher light. They can also be target-fed occassionally with foods like brine shrimp or finely chopped mysis, clam, shrimp or other meaty foods.
Paythoa polyps can spread quickly over surfaces and may even overgrow other corals. They should be places in areas with plenty of room to spread where they will not endanger other corals in the aquarium. They should also have moderate to high flow.
Jason Fox is well known within the coral enthusiast world as one of the premier coral farmers in the U.S.A. Jason has spent years accumulating a spectacular collection of corals in his farm, TFP is proud to offer some of Jason's signature corals as part of our coral frag collection.
