Hologymnosus doliatus "Pastel Ring Wrasse" - Juvenile
The Pastel Ring Wrasse (Hologymnosus doliatus) has three distinctive color variations. Young individuals are white with red stripes. As they mature, they change their colors and their sex, finally reaching their multicolor terminal form.
Hologymnosus species are found in Indo-Pacific waters, in variable depths ranging from 20 to nearly 100 feet. Juveniles will hunt for the typical wrasse foods like hard-shelled crustaceans copepods. As they mature, these fish will consume most any fish or mobile invert it can capture and swallow.
These wrasses need a good sandbed not only as a place to sleep, but for defense as well. These fish are beautiful, particularly as juveniles, but be aware that they grow to about 12 inches and they are not friendly to smaller tankmates as adults. They are best suited to large fish only tanks with tankmates that will be too large to eat.
