Basket Stars are unique and interesting creatures for large, well-established reef aquaria. They are orange to tan or brown in color and their arms are finely branched to form a fine net when unfurled. These specialized arms allow them to catch tiny planktonic animals as they drift by. Basket Stars prefer dim areas and usually only open at night to feed. By day, they will cling to a surface in a shaded area of the tank and curl into a tight mass. They may stretch to 24" when fully expanded, and need area enough to do so. As with any star, they are very sensitive to changes in water chemistry and salinity, and should be acclimated slowly and thoroughly upon arrival.
