The Shameface Crab (Calappa sp.) is a curious and endearing crab. It has a round, dome-shaped body that it will bury into the substrate, often up to its eyes. Its common name comes from its two large, flattened claws that it uses to cover all of its face except the eyes, appearing like a shy animal hiding its face. The shell is usually beige or pinkish but can vary.

These crabs are not reef safe and are best kept in a species-only tank or with larger tankmates. They are scavengers and will feed on leftover foods and meaty items. They can be fed bits of meaty foods - shrimp, scallops, krill, clam and similar items - several times a week.
