Details
The Barred Shrimpgoby (Cryptocentrus fasciatus) is usually lighter on top with bars that extend down the side in Y-shapes although the body color can vary with region and mood. The body is marked by blue speckles and the anal fin has two prominent bright blue stripes.
Watchman Gobies (Cryptocentrus sp.) are best known as part of the group of gobies known as "Shrimpgobies" or "Prawn Gobies". They form symbiotic relationships with certain pistol shrimp. These shrimp build and maintain a burrow for them both to live in, and the goby defends the lair and supplies food. Shrimpgobies are also minor sandsifters but will not sift as much as those generally referred to as "Sleeper Gobies" (Valenciennea sp.) or "Hover Gobies" (Amblygobius sp.).
Watchman Gobies from the genus Cryptocentrus are similar to other shrimpgobies but generally get more aggressive, both towards other fish and, especially with larger fish, towards ornamental inverts like shrimp and crabs (except for their shrimp partner, if they have one). They are not as skinny in their body shape and have very large mouths. Avoid keeping Watchman Gobies with other shrimpgobies or in small tanks where their aggression may become more pronounced.
These gobies will eat a variety of frozen foods and possibly flake and pellet. Gobies prefer a tank with plenty of rocky hiding places. They get along with most tankmates, but can be aggressive toward other gobies. Gobies are known jumpers; when startled or threatened, they have been known to jump out of uncovered aquariums. Always keep the tank covered and provide plenty of hiding places for this fish to retreat to.

Lack of Color
by Brady
Kept in a 55 reef setup with a Tiger Pistol Shrimp without any problems-hardy, and fun to watch burrow. Just not as much color as the Yellow or Blue Spotted Watchman, but cool to have as a larger peaceful goby.
