Details
The Horsefoot Clam (Hippopus hippopus, also known as the Hippopus Clam) has much more muted coloring than most ornamental marine clams. It has a triangular, ridged shell and the mottled gold and gray mantle does not extend past the margin of the shell. This clam does best settled on a sand bed. This is a fairly rare clam that does not often appear in the trade.
Clams are wonderful additions to any reef aquaria but do have some requirements that make them more difficult than other inverts to keep. Some research is recommended before purchasing one to find out what species will work the best in your reef aquarium. They require good lighting and excellent water conditions.
