Geometric Flame Basslet - Plectranthias inermis
Details
The Geometric Flame Basslet (Plectranthias inermis) is sometimes referred to as a hawkfish since it shares the hawkfish family's behavior of perching on rockwork and corals. It is fairly rare but is becoming more common in the aquarium trade. They are collected from deeper reefs greater than around 50 feet deep. It is white with bright red blotches and a long white dorsal spine.
Also like hawkfish, this basslet may bother small crabs shrimp and crustaceans, but is otherwise reef safe. Its small size makes it ideal for nano or species tanks. They are not generally difficult to feed and should be given small meaty foods such as plankton or fortified brine shrimp.
