Details
Banggai Cardinals (Pterapogon kauderni) are striking and graceful fish. They have silver bodies with black stripes and white spots. They are schooling and can be moderately aggressive towards each other, tending to better in larger numbers (6+) or alone.
Banggai Cardinals are nocturnal so they need plenty of daytime hiding places. Once they have settled in they will often show themselves during the day, especially during feeding time. They are peaceful toward other fish, but a breeding pair may exhibit some territoriality toward others.
Banggai Cardinalfish are excellent for reef aquariums where they feel comfortable hiding among corals. They do best eating frozen foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and plankton in captivity. They are mouthbrooders that are easily bred in captivity by experienced aquarists.
In 2007, Banggaii Cardinals were added to the IUCN Red List due to their declining wild population. Due to this restriction, wild caught specimens are highly discouraged. The Banggai Cardinals offered here are captive-bred and have not been harvested from the wild.
