Rabbit Snails (genus Tylomelania) are hardy freshwater snails that can be found in a wide range of color and pattern. Most species have long, cone-shaped shells that are usually black or dark brown. The body color can range from ivory white to yellow, orange or black and may have spots. These snails can grow fairly large depending on the species, up to 3 inches or more in shell length.
Rabbit Snails are relatively active for snails. Their common name comes from their "rabbit-like" face with two little ear-like tentacles but they may also be known as elephant snails due to their long feeding tube known as a "proboscis". Rabbit Snails are herbivorous algae-eaters and are generally safe for planted aquariums.
