Details
The Blackbarred Convict Goby (Priolepis nocturna) is also sometimes known as the "Bondable Nocturna". They are white with dark brown stripes, sometimes with black edges. These gobies usually live in caves or under ledges and are often seen swimming upside-down, giving them their other common names of "Circus Goby" or "Cave Goby".
Pygmy Gobies from the genera Trimma, Eviota and a few others are some of the least common to enter the aquarium trade but are often brightly colored and very attractive. Their small size can make feeding tricky as food must be appropriately small. These gobies may have difficulty finding food in larger aquariums or may be out-competed for food by quicker, more boisterous tankmates. They are best kept in smaller reef tanks where they can be easily fed and enjoyed. Their diet should consist of meaty items like Cyclops, baby brine shrimp, mysis shrimp and similar items.
Due to their tiny adult size, these fish are vulnerable to larger predators. Do not keep with fish or invertebrates that may prey upon these fish, or keep in a species-only tank. Provide plenty of rubble and hiding places like corals or coral skeletons. As with other gobies, pygmy gobies may fight with other pygmy gobies for territory. As more of these tiny fish are discovered, names and classifications may be changed.
