The Gold Nugget Pleco is an olive to black suckermouth catfish that has small gold colored spots covering its body and fins. The dorsal and caudal fins have a gold margin. The attractive markings of this catfish make it very popular in the aquarium trade.
Gold Nugget Plecos can reach a maximum length of at least 11 inches, and is very impressive looking when mature. It is a peaceful species that can be kept in most community aquariums. It is, however, somewhat territorial with its own kind. They are best kept singly or in pairs to avoid territorial conflicts.
This fish is relatively hardy, but requires efficient filtration. It is also sensitive to cooler temperatures. The Gold Nugget Pleco is omnivorous, and will consume plant matter, driftwood, small invertebrates, and other meaty foods. It may destroy soft-leaved plants, so use caution in the planted tank.
This fish is nocturnal, and will require a daytime hiding place. Suitable retreats can be made using PVC pipes, driftwood, rocks, or other decorations.

Great, interesting, colorful pleco!
by Tim
the price threw me off at first, until I realized that I couldn't walk away from the display tank. These guys are amazing to look at, and the entire family loves our pleco. I have him in with a 3" tiger oscar, and a 1" electric blue jack Dempsey. It holds its own so far, even when the Oscar tries to "loom" over it by kind of standing on its fins to stand its ground. Great, and interesting addition to any tank! However it is not a fan of bright lights and likes lots of hiding spaces.
